BIG BANG – Let’s Not Fall In Love (우리 사랑하지 말아요)

Let’s not fall in love, we don’t know each other very well yet
Actually, I’m a little scared, I’m sorry
Let’s not make promises, you never know when tomorrow comes
But I really mean it when I say I like you

Don’t ask me anything
I can’t give you an answer
We’re so happy as we are right now

Don’t try to have me
Let’s just stay like this
You’re making it more painful, why?

Goodbyes after our frequent meet-ups
Repetition of broken hearts
I can’t find a purpose in these foolish feelings
A mistake with the mask of love
All the feelings are the same now
But in this moment, I want you to stay

Let’s not fall in love, we don’t know each other very well yet
Actually, I’m a little scared, I’m sorry
Let’s not make promises, you never know when tomorrow comes
But I really mean it when I say I like you

Don’t smile at me
If I get attached to you, I’ll get sad
I’m afraid that pretty smile will turn into tears

Don’t try to trap us
In the word, love
Because it’s a greed that can’t be filled

At first, it was half excitement, half worries
But in the end, it became an obligation, trial and error
Day by day, I get nervous, your innocence is too much pressure on me
But tonight, I want you to stay

Don’t expect too much from me
I don’t wanna lose you either
Before things get too deep, before you get hurt
Don’t trust me

You’re always like that
Selfish bastard

Let’s not fall in love, we don’t know each other very well yet
Actually, I’m a little scared, I’m sorry
Let’s not make promises, you never know when tomorrow comes
But I really mean it when I say I like you

Hoping to be a bridge between k-pop music & k-pop fans who don't understand the Korean language.

  1. Why did you translate this ‘넌 항상 그래’ as You always call me? I don’t really understand ;_; I didn’t find the verb ‘call’ in this sentence. I only could find sth like this – “You’re always like that”.

    1. I didn’t mean “call” as in phone call–I meant, “You always call me a selfish bastard.” Sorry, that line break must’ve made things confusing!

    1. You’re right! I think the line break is confusing because I meant “You always call me a selfish bastard.” I think the line break makes it seem like “call” like a phone call but that’s not what we meant 🙂 I’m gonna fix that now to prevent further confusion– thanks!

    2. Oh man, never mind! I just listened to the song and realized it was a girl narrating. In that case, you’re translation is more accurate. SORRY AND THANKS!! 🙂

    1. He’s selfish because, in reality, he’s only thinking about how he feels. “I don’t want to get hurt. I’m scared. I don’t want to commit.” The girl is willing to take a risk with him and build the relationship, but he is not. Instead of “bastard” (which means you were born out of wedlock), it is more accurate to say “coward”. Selfish coward. Selfish (all about what I get out of the relationship) and Coward (too afraid to commit and stick around when things get tough, scary, or boring).

The brave and selfless thing to do is to promise to be together forever and then work at keeping that promise—even if it hurts to keep it. Strive to maintain the relationship alive instead of breaking up. The easy thing to do is run away from the problem; it takes courage to stick around because you said you would. Fight to keep your promise to each other! Now, that’s a man. That’s love! But no….because then… it gets hard…and we’re just going to break up anyway…excuses, excuses! What a little worm of a man.

Why not mean what you say? Why not intend to stay together forever instead of merely looking to make yourself blush, get your “feels”-fix, an adrenaline rush, butterflies in the stomach (notice how focused on “self” that is—how self is feeling, what self is getting out of the relationship). She needs someone who sticks around even when there’s nothing pleasurable left and who keeps his word: someone who will promise to be her companion, share life together, through thick and thin, good times and bad times, sickness and in health—and mean it.

I don’t sympathize with this song at all. It is the anthem of cowards and the song of the disloyal, who say things they don’t mean. This is why no one gets married FOR REAL anymore, but divorce or forever look for boyfriends/girlfriends—or worse “some” relationships / are we really dating? Maybe, not really, kind of? They’ve all become cowards. If you’re going to get romantically involved with someone, then commit, with a promise, for life. True love is supposed to be others-centered, not self-centered. It’s about how you can make the life of the other person better, help them survive, if you truly loved them / cared about the other person. Love never gives up. It perseveres. And is focused on others, not self.

      1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (WEB)

4 Love is patient and is kind; love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, 5 doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; 6 doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

      John 15:13 (WEB)

13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
